A California mother of octuplets dubbed "Octomom" defended herself on Thursday against pictures that showed the house she shares with her 14 children in disarray, saying she was the victim of a "set-up" over the leaked photos.
The investigation was prompted after Suleman's hairdresser, who allegedly was paid $520 to give the single mother and her kids haircuts at their home, filed a complaint after witnessing Suleman's kids living in questionable conditions. Just four hours after images of her dishevelled and filthy property were posted online, Nadya Suleman hired a four person cleaning crew to attend to her home.
"She thought it was unacceptable that they're, you know, half-naked, going potty," Suleman said in the ABC program view that aired on Thursday. The hairdresser allegedly released the incriminating photos to www.tmz.com to back up her case. Her interview comes after cleaners were pictured going into her home to clean up the mess yesterday.
Police and social services workers visited Suleman's home on Tuesday, after a woman expressed concerns over the well-being of Suleman's children, La Habra police said in a statement. Following Tuesday's investigation, the Orange County Social Services Agency concluded that Suleman's children were safe and no further action was taken.
Citing confidentially clauses, Social Services Agency's (SSA) Children and Family Services rep Terry Linn Fisher, would neither confirm nor deny whether the Department had visited Suleman, or if any further investigation was underway. The mother recently posed semi-bare for a British magazine. "I've been using the media to pay the bills," she explained. "Any offer, now, is to take care of my kids."
